Oh my gosh, yeah, we're we're just being a bunch of goofballs over here. But we have officially hijacked Buzzcast I am crystal prophet. And with me I have my good friends Jordan and Carrie in so welcome to the show today, ladies. Hi. Hi. We've officially like I mean, it's just like a whole Liam Neeson movie over here we've officially hijacked Buzzcast from the Buzzsprout. Guys, and I'm really excited because we're gonna have so much fun today. So karianna Jordan, actually curien I want to start with you. Tell us how are we connected to Buzzsprout?

yeah. And we are super excited to be here with you today hosting Buzzcast. The guys were on vacation. And if you missed it, if you did not see we have a video version of the podcast, you will absolutely have to go check out because we have little cutouts don't tell them. They don't know about this. But we have one of Travis and Kevin and Alvin. And it is the most genius. Yes, ladies, for everybody just watching on video. Y'all have to go check this out. The guys don't know about it. And it's going to be very fun surprise. But we're gonna get into it today. So we are officially covering the latest and greatest in podcasting news. But I wanted to start with the fact that we are all in summer, it's June here. And we are getting into the summer months of podcasting. And we're all going to talk a little bit about our podcast as we get into this are different experiences. But I wanted to talk about like our kids are out of school, maybe people have different rhythms like maybe some people are going back to work, maybe some people are still working from home, but brand new podcasters always ask me, How do you navigate summer months? So I want y'all to take like does podcasting change for either one of you? Whenever summertime hits Jordan, like what's your take on that?

I'm not a whole lot though. I have taken one break from my podcast before. So I do have some experience with that. But yeah, during the summer months, I don't really change too much.

And tell us what it What's your style. Tell us a little bit about your podcast, like what's the format of your show.

Unknown: 3:05

It's a fictional storytelling. It's very episodic, you know, you can jump around and stuff like that. But when I took a vacation, I just reached out to other podcasts in my genre, and did little features. They sent me an episode of theirs. And so as a placeholder for my episodes, every time I suppose drop an episode of mine, I would drop an episode of theirs and just tell people like, hey, still on break, but in the meantime, check out this other podcast and that worked really great.

like Jordan, I just keep the same routine. Listeners might drop off a little bit because they're on summer vacation. But keep it the same regular try to do maybe fun episodes, but don't change it too much. I've tried to do little things where if there was an episode that was really popular, I'd go back and maybe add commentary and maybe put like, Hey, here's a little excerpt from that episode, you should go check it out and maybe add some more commentary to it. But other than that, I just keep producing and recording.

Yeah, so what's your typical schedule look like? Are you publishing once a week twice a week? Like what what's your typical schedule for your podcast?

So I want to say bi weekly, but people get tripped up by what bi weekly mean? So every other week I put out in episodes at least two episodes a month and I just keep with that routine through the entire summer unless something crazy happens and we have to do a bonus episode Other than that, just keep it consistent

and don't want to go down in English language rabbit hole but bi weekly reading twice a week like that's exactly what I think of it. I think that's what everybody thinks up so I'm so glad you

know, I've had people are like, do you meet twice a week and I'm like no, every other week yeah. As someone with an accounting background, it's every other week, twice a week would be like, I don't know, I don't know. Twice a week.

Well, I love that, you know, we have to explain these things because we hear them so often whenever someone says that it's like, No, no, let me explain this to you. It doesn't mean like it. And this is such a great point for brand new podcasters, or anybody that's listening, like how to tell your audience to listen to your show is so important. That way. They don't feel dumb, like, Oh, wait, she just said bi weekly. There was somebody that googled it. As soon as you said it, they're like, Oh, what is carry on me? And I'm gonna look this what is bi weekly, because I don't know what that is. So I think that it's really important to talk to your audience in a way where they know how to find your show, cuz it's going to make it more successful. Right? Absolutely. I wanted to talk a little bit, you know, we've had the summer months transitioning, you know, from the kids and everything. People being in school people trying to figure out navigate the new normal of what's going on in the world, you know, and I know that people listen to this podcast from all over the globe. So there's no telling exactly how like, oh, it has your country open up. Are you still on lockdown. So it may not be any different for some people. And it could be totally different week to week, depending on where someone lives. But I know, podcast conferences are something that I wanted to touch on, especially because Cariann and I recently attended a virtual conference and we're all praying that you know, the in person conferences are going to be coming back this year. I cannot wait. I cannot wait to like see you all in person. I'm just being squeezed.

So the kids are out on school and we are back in school via podcast conferencing. Virtual or in person. You're right. You know, summer is that time where we have a lot of podcasts conference. So it was that airship one did I butcher that? Yeah.

Yeah, that was a really good one. I didn't get to see all of it. But I definitely had some really good sessions there. Obviously. Albin was a presenter and I liked the one with Sally, her ship on storytelling for audio. I think that was a really good one. And the capstone for that event was Tom Webster from Edison research. That's his name, right? I'm like fudging names, right. But he gave some really good stats on podcasting, which Alban, of course, live tweeted. So I will make sure that you have a link to that thread in the show notes. But there were some key takeaways from that were the top platform for podcasts were Apple, Spotify and YouTube. And if you combined it, Google and YouTube would be third. But then he said something very interesting that if you let the the listener choose the platform, they choose YouTube first, and like my mouth was on the floor, you know. So Alvin and I were tweeting about that. And the other thing that he said, which was very critical, and we talked about this in the chat, he said, where you found your original audience is not where you will find your new audience. And so remember, we were having that discussion about listening to audiobooks, and audible and then can't listen to podcasts and audible. I think that's a lot to do with how new listeners where they reside, and you kind of have to find them in these new areas. I think it was very interesting. The stats that were coming out, so and that's my first conference for the summer. So I can only imagine what's going to happen at podcast movement.

Yes, yes. Jordan, what about you? Have you attended many podcast conferences since you became a podcaster? Either virtual or in person.

I've actually, I've never attended one in person. I've attended a couple virtual conferences. And I'm actually really impressed with like what they did. And for me, it was great being able to go back and watch recordings and stuff like that. So that's something that's really cool. It's come out of the pandemic, but I am. Oh, no, like, I mean, we're going to be speaking at the podcast movement this year, but it's gonna be the first in person one for me. So I'm like, a little scared. I'm not sure what to expect. But if it's anything like these, I mean, if it's anything better than these online, ones that they are doing, then I'm jazzed about, it's just going to be amazing.

Yes. And that's going to be right at the end of the set. Well, I don't know. It's kind of weird, you know, because I say the end of the summer because I think of it as like, you know, it's we're winding down going back to school, I think it's like right at the beginning of August. So it's the first week of August. So anybody that's going to podcast movement, like we're gonna be there. We're all really excited. And we're all probably going to throw up right before we go on stage. So y'all just like, let us get a breath mint, and then come up and give us a high five, and then we'll talk to you because we're all it's gonna be fun, I joke about it, but we're all a little nervous, but it's gonna be fun,

we'll be fine, we'll be fine. We're just like, you know, we'll be around the Buzzsprout crew, we'll see all our other podcast friends. And so nerves will wear out and the fun will kick in. Because we have such a fun track, you know, doing the thing with like, beginning podcasters. Like, that's the most exciting part. And so we have, by far the most fun track ever to be working on. So it'll be great. It'd be very nervous at first, but it'll be great.

If you see us beforehand, just don't talk to us beforehand, well hang out afterwards. We are going to talk now about podcast communities. Because this is something that I get asked about so much is like how do you build a community around your podcast? And how do you you know, get these people to like, really just be engaged with your content and go all in with what you do. So carry on. I know you have a really big community of podcasters because it's so Nish. It's so incredible. I love all the things that you're doing. So can you talk a little bit about your own experience in finding a podcast community and what it's been like to grow one yourself?

Um, you know, it's it's like dating, you know, each community has a vibe, a mood, and you want to find a community where you feel like you fit in, and you could ask questions and not feel like you're judged. Even if they may judge you, you just feel like, hey, so what crystals gonna say this, but I think it's important not to feel like I have to do this. You want to be in a place where you're comfortable? Because if you're not, then I wouldn't be able to ask questions, and we'll laugh about it. Haha. Okay, all right, seriously, carry on, here's what you do. And I think that's very important as podcasters because if you're not comfortable asking questions, then it's very hard to grow. And so for me, that took some time to find a place where I felt comfortable and also find a community where they were talking about or addressing, in my case, a similar demographic, which was being of Caribbean heritage. And that took a while to grow. Because I started podcasting way, way back in the last decade or so, you know, you know, Oh, geez, well, not original original. But you know what I mean, and, you know, that experience in where the spaces with Caribbean podcasters is just so amazing to see. And there's a profile we have on Caribbean podcast directory, where someone just said exactly how I feel they said, all of us with our podcast, collectively, are telling or retelling stories of the Caribbean and the Caribbean American experience. And that is just awesome. So to answer your question, find a community where you feel like you could fit in, or your personality matches, but they'll challenge you. And don't be afraid to make friends. It's you know, it's like what middle school high school all over again, but got to do it.

Yes. Oh my gosh, this is so good. And I love I love you explaining like the feelings of it. And like the vibes and the moods and all the things because I feel like everybody can relate to that. Oh, this is so good. But I have to go back and think about carrion is a baby podcaster. Right, you're just getting started? Did you actually go and seek community? like did you did you? Or did you just find some podcasters? You're like, hey, you're kind of doing the same thing. Like maybe you know what you're talking about? Like, what did that look like whenever you first kind of stumbled into your first community of podcasters?

To be honest, it wasn't until two years later that I found community because I thought it was just me. I thought it was me. I'm sorry. I do music a lot. So you know, I thought it was just me. And then I remember distinctively, someone said, Hey, you know, you should try to go to podcast movement. I was like, say what now they have a thing like that. And that's how I went to podcast movement in Anaheim the first year. And that's when I met all my podcast friends. And ever since I go to podcast movement, we just hang out read. They're just like, Hey, friends, what's going on with session you going to? All right. And so it took two years. Imagine two whole two years before I found a community because podcasting back then didn't. It's not like what it is now where you see it everywhere. And I'm grateful to the person who suggested that I applied to be a speaker. And I think it was an effort on podcast movement to try to get more people to come to the event. And that's what happens when you're in tensional about growing a community. And because you can't assume that you're visible, you know, you can't assume that everyone knows who you are. And I think that's why, you know, finding people like now I find people say, Hey, what are you doing? But yeah, back in the day took me the whole two years. And when I found them, it was my world changed. My world change. I can't, I'm not gonna kill the whole episode with this. But my world changed when I went to podcast, and met some amazing people. That's awesome. Oh, that's so good.

And I just love to hear the backstory. Because I think a lot of podcasters, like you said, you know, you think of yourself as you're on an island, you're the only one that has your message has your story. And you know your purpose. And we all have different purposes for podcasting. But it's so cool when you find this community of people that are all trying to move a message forward. And like, collectively, we're all kind of like locking arms and saying, No, you're not going to get stuck in your technical snafu and your equipment, like we're all going to walk through this together. But Jordan, I know that you have a totally different experience. And, by the way, if you are part of our Buzzsprout Facebook group, I would like to introduce you to Jordan, one of our moderators who helps make the world go round in our Facebook community. So tell us about your experience with podcast and just like having a community of people around you.

Yeah, I mean, I have a completely different experience than Carrie. And I did I mean, I can't even fathom my podcast isn't even two years old yet. And I can't fathom having done this by myself, like literally just shouting into the void. And there being like, no one around, I can't even fathom it. So for me, you know, I got started podcasting because of Buzzsprout. And because of this podcast that we're on right now, Buzzcast. And I joined their Facebook group, and just really got involved and really dove into it. So I mean, before I even put out my first episode, I was like in it and trying to seek out that community and it was not hard to find. So I feel really fortunate in that way, you know, just hearing karianne story. But yeah, I just I love how there's, you know, over 20,000 members in that Facebook group, and everyone is so stinking nice and helpful and willing to share things. And it's just, it's incredible. It's awesome. No,

Krystal: 17:27

this is so good. Because I think that this is this is the different side of community, right? Where if, if someone is really stuck, right, we're talking to anybody that's listening, if you are really stuck in your podcast, and you're like, I don't know where to turn to. I come here week after week, you know, and I listen to podcasts, and I watch YouTube videos, and I see podcasters having fun, like from a distance. If that's you, come join us, like come be part of the Buzzsprout Buzzcast community because y'all were having a good time. Like, I'm not gonna speak for everybody, but the three of us were having a good time, because that's what makes it so fun is being part of the community being connected. And I just love that I know if I get stuck somewhere, I have a group of people that I can reach out to and say, I think I broke the internet did. Can you help me fix this? Because I did something wrong. And then usually like, I mean, there's so many really smart people in audio, like, I'm just gonna throw that out there. People are always like, Oh, you teach podcasting. You must know all the things. And I'm like, No, actually, I have, like six people on speed dial that I use on a regular basis and say, can you help out with this? Because I'm stuck. And I don't know what to do. So if y'all need help, come join us. We have a fantastic community of podcasters. Is there anything else you want to add about podcast community?

I think that last point you made is important, right? That you think that because you're an expert. You know everything right? There's always a problem that stumped someone. And I think the fun thing about podcasting, everyone then tries to figure it out. Aha, there's a problem. Let's go sleuthing. I feel that's the vibe that we get. And it's like, Huh, like you, Jordan, when you have that little noise thing? And we're like, Where did that come from? mysterious noise mysterious. Like I said, alien noise. You know, so I think, you know, don't be afraid or think you know, enough. Or you should know this. There's always something that is a challenge for people to uncover. And it also adds to their knowledge bank when they do, you know, figure out a solution. So don't feel intimidated that Oh, I should know this and you don't know this. And that's been my experience. People want to learn together. And as we are doing this real time, it's how we uncover our problems and collectively work on solutions. Yeah, I mean, there's there's also another aspect to the community where maybe you're not in conversation with these people. But um, I see a lot within our community and within the people that we are interacting with and stuff that, you know, it's it's like new podcasters coming in, and they're saying, you know, oh, I want to make a podcast and it's interview based, but there's just there's so much competition out there, there's so much competition. And that's just the word I hear over and over again. And I feel like there needs to be a bit of a mind, mind shift change, you know, there needs to be a little bit of a more positive spin put on this, because if you think about it, our goal as podcasters is to serve the audience and audience's interests, whether that be entertainment or education, or whatever. And, you know, for example, if someone is a fan of Marvel, they're not just going to watch the Spider Man movies. And that's it. That's their favorite. That's it, they're not touching anything else, they're going to watch all of the movies, they're gonna watch, you know, decade's worth of movies, they're gonna watch Agents of SHIELD and watch all the new Disney shows, they're going to consume as much Marvel as humanly possible. And they might even dabble in some DC stuff. You know what I mean. And that's the same thing for, let's say, sports. Yeah, people have a favorite sports team, but they're going to watch like, all the games, they're also going to watch the college games, and they're going to interact with all this stuff. And they're going to consume as much as they can, because that's what they love. And it's no different for podcasting. There's no reason why we need to have this mindset that there can only be one true crime podcast, and that's it. You know, I know, speaking from experience, I want as much as I can get, and the more great shows that are out there, the better. I want all of it. And so you know, as long as you're intentional, and you're contributing to that, I think that it would be so beneficial for us to have this community mindset as opposed to competition mindset.

That's awesome. And I mean, I'm not gonna lie. You said Marvel. And I'm just thinking of Chris Hemsworth. Because I love I mean, I'm just, I'm a boy, mom. And I'm not going to complain that Marvel is in and around this house everywhere, because I love it so much, but no, like to be like, totally back to your point. I love the fact that community is what brought the three of us together and the fact that without this podcast community, I mean, like you said, Jordan, I couldn't imagine being in carians position, starting at the beginning and just feeling like, oh, man, I wish that I had this, which I mean, obviously, carry on. You didn't even know you were just doing your thing. Yeah. Like, I didn't even know I was missing out on anything until it's like, oh, wait, here it is. Here's my people, I'm gonna go join them. Because they look like they're gonna have fun or we're all gonna I'm gonna start a party in here. Because that's how carrion is. We are actually going to move into our next segment, which is the one that makes us all. I feel like bawling my fist and cringing a little bit because it's more about Apple podcasts. So I'm just, yeah, yeah, there's a lot of sighing and a lot of eye rolls. You know, I, I think that Oh, I just Yeah, I don't does anybody want to know, but know where to start? Where to start? I mean, yeah.

Go ahead. All hop in here. Um, yeah. So I mean, we heard that they were dropping this. And it was like, okay, like, you know, their, their cut of it. And the processing fee. It's a little pricey, but it's also Apple podcasts, and it gets you like, right in front of people. So I was willing to, like, jump in on it. So I think like, mid May, I paid like the 20 bucks to hop in there. And I was gonna be like one of those first people. And I haven't seen a return on my investment quite yet. Yeah, I mean, and we all got the email Friday, about how they're finally like, they're just like, Yeah, all right. We were delayed. Yeah, we've had some problems. But you know, and I also installed the new 14.6 iOS update that is supposed to include like a podcast subscription stuff, so it feels like we're moving towards it. But I haven't seen any channels. On that update. I can't seem to find them. Maybe I'm just not very good at looking for them. But I cannot seem to find it on the podcast app. Have you guys messed with that at all? No, no. To be honest, so when the announcement first came out, I realized that the channels took over the the feature where like a publisher or studio had its own page, and I asked that question, because I was like, What is this about? But I think overall, the issue isn't so much with the glitch because most Tech has As a glitch or something, it's the lack of communication that I think is the most frustrating. And it's almost as if we felt like we were complaining, and no one was like paying attention to us not validating or complaints or the issues or the questions. And, and so every time something comes up is like, Oh, one more thing on this whole frustrating rollout of a product. And so for you, Jordan, listening to how you're up to your experience, I'm like, I don't know if I want to do this subscription thing, because it's like an aversion at this point. Absolutely. And I completely agree with you about the lack of communication, it's not only lack of communication, within the glitches, it's also a lack of communication in like, the process to get listed, and what that entails and what this all means. Because, you know, one minute we're hearing that we can do this, and the next that. So for example, they're saying, like, yeah, you can have free podcasts, freemium, podcasts, and paid podcasts. And I'm, like, great, and they're like, hey, if you have channels, then you could have like, free channels. But if you have like free content with paid content on the channel, you gotta pay for the channel itself before you can get the free stuff too. Which sounds absurd to me. But I, I don't understand how its freemium works. I mean, you know, you guys saw I posted our group chat, but I was trying to get it set up. And I was following their steps. And like, step four in the process is like, upload your bonus content that you want to be behind a paywall. So I'm like, Alright, do that. And then step five says create a channel. And then in order to set up a subscription price, you have to create a channel, will if I create a channel, but I have paid stuff by I need it freemium, does that mean someone has to pay to be on the channel in order to get my freemium content? And so I don't know if that is actually true? Because if so that doesn't make sense. And that's very clunky. It's created some confusion within the community. And so I'm wondering if this is another one of those things where they're telling us like, Oh, yeah, I mean, if you have paid content on a channel, or freemium content channel, then you have to pay for the channel. But what they actually mean is you have to create that in order to I don't know, it's just all it's not making sense. There's already so much ambiguous information out there with podcasting, and so many things to figure out. And this is just one added thing that the industry doesn't need, because it just makes it all the more complicated. And I think it could have been a little easier. And it goes back, not to the tech glitches, because we've all had glitches in our podcasting career. It's just that communication is like, yeah, we understand that you're experiencing this. And yeah, we apologize for the confusion. Yeah, let's do this. It is the customer experience, we've come to know that as with all the Apple products, let us apply that to the podcasting aspect of apple. And I think that's what people are kind of having a disconnect with, when it comes to that. This whole rollout To be quite honest, and just observing because there is there's there's also frustration on the part, I'm sure of providers like Buzzsprout, because you're their their their customers are asking them questions. And I'm sure they don't even know the answers to some of these questions. Because they too, are just trying to figure it out. And it's almost like, what can we put in place? When platforms like apple or Spotify, whoever do these things? Should there be a connection with the hosting providers or someone to help with the tech support? I don't know. And I think these are all they're more questions than answers. It's just me just kind of thinking through all these challenges, and how long so it's pushed off to June today's June 1. So How much longer will we go through this? You know, process and will this last till the end of the year? That's the question at this point. And that's exactly it. You know, that's, that's exactly it. We just don't know, even though they sent us the email and they're like, Hey, we're acknowledging these problems. But and we said it was gonna be made but don't worry, it's gonna be June. It's like, is it isn't though, guys, you know, so you just they're, they're not very definitive about things. And they're not saying like, why it was postponed. They're not giving any of the information. They're saying, like, Hey, we rolled out these things, but then you like, can't see it. It's just it's it's not tangible at this point. And I'm trying to get my stuff listed. I'm trying to mess with it. I'm doing everything I can, but I can't see any sort of fruits of my labor here. Like I'm doing everything I can to kind of like mess with it and see if I can test some things out how it works, you know, look under the hood a little bit. And even though it's there, it's not it's this weird facade. It's kind of like their affiliate program where they have that, but then the like, the form doesn't work. And so you can't sign up anyway. And I just feel like there's a lot of that going on right now. Crystal, anyone in your community that's asking questions about the subscription app, and and it's not working for them. I'm curious to hear what others are experiencing?

Well, for me, as someone who teaches entrepreneurs how to get their podcast started, the most frustrating part for me is the idea that Apple has put out this, you know, this platform, this product, and it's not working properly, and their immediate concern is, okay, so I don't need Buzzsprout anymore. And I know like everybody, uh, Buzzsprout. like, Wait, hang on, don't even say that don't even like talk about that at all. Because that's like, you know, we would never want that to happen. But at the end of the day, it's the question I'm getting asked a lot. And my immediate response is, it doesn't work, like, like, Where are you gonna go? It's like, why would you go anywhere. And I'm not saying that, you know, and I get it, I've been part of launches and iterations and iterations of software, I get that there's bugs. And there's probably so many people on the apple platform that immediately was like, oh, something's new. Let me jump on it. Just like all of us were early adopters of stuff or like, let me jump in there. But as everyone saw, kind of over the month of May, I saw some really big podcasts, not just some small independent podcast, or some really big podcast just totally disappear off the apple platform. And I just, you know, I'm assuming that it was the result of some bugs and glitches in their system. So my take on it is, I am not a huge fan of adding in more steps or decisions to make for a brand new podcaster where they have to say, should I just only be Apple exclusive, and you know, we could watch another episode for another time is all the other platforms like Spotify, saying they're gonna do something very similar. And they're like, you know, I feel like they're the greatest example, in a great analogy I use the other day since we talked about Marvel. And now we're gonna talk about Kong Vs. Godzilla, cuz I watched this with the kids too. And it's really good. If y'all haven't seen it, it's really good. I liked it. But it's, it's I think about these two giants, right? And they're just fighting to get the attention of the podcast consumer. But yet, here we are. We're the podcast producers. And they're mostly worried about people that are consuming the podcast, and they're just like, we got to get the most attention. Because we're just fighting to the death. That's really what I feel like it's like this fight to the death to see who's gonna be the superpower who's gonna be the tide on top is like, and I just feel like, it's like, we're the bystanders on the sidelines eating or popcorn saying, you know, I just hope somebody set somebody on fire soon. Like, if we're gonna be here for this show. Like, I

think we're actually gonna table in the building, like as it's going down.

Screaming Why is this happening? Why are you even here? Know where the tiny person yelling don't go? And they're like, Ah, yeah, yeah. Oh, my gosh,

you know, one of the things I was just absolutely thinking of crystal when you were talking about people being like, Oh, well, should I just go Apple exclusive, then basically, you know, and it's like, no, it. I mean, honestly, vast majority, the world are not even iPhone users. Yes. Like people in other countries don't even use iPhones. They're usually like Android based users. And so I don't know why you would, you know, put yourself into that little category. You know, and in, you know, for me, I mean, Apple is like, nothing on my listener base. And so some of that has to do with your audience as well. My audience is vast majority Spotify, and like, I don't know, 8%, Apple podcasts. So I just don't, I don't think it's wise to just go with one specific platform. You just should not do that. Because you never know where your audience is going to be.

This is interesting. Actually, I want to talk about this for a second Cariann. What is your experience like percentage wise? What are your top two or three players that you have on your podcast?

Well, I'm not in Spotify. So my number one is Apple, and iTunes and then whatever else comes after that maybe stitcher and maybe Google podcasts or any of the other pod catchers, but I'm not the podcast is no longer an app on Spotify.

Krystal: 34:52

Now, that's really interesting. Mine's about I would say between 75 and 80%. Apple, and then I actually get a lot of plays on my butt. Buzzsprout website. So this is a little plug for your Buzzsprout website, like I put it in all my show notes. And I still have a lot of people that go to my website and listen there. So, I mean, at the end of the day, I think that Apple is their intentions are good to try to move podcasting forward. I just think that with this particular rollout, and especially we'll link to, we found an article and the title of it just the headline of it. It says Apple delays podcast subscriptions to June, which that's what we were talking about earlier. And you know, it's just, oh, just lots of size, y'all just lots of sighs just wondering what's going to happen. I'm sure everything's going to be figured out over the next six to 12 months. I keep telling people, my community just the way that you consume podcasts. And you understand podcasting as it is today. I see it being vastly different in the next 12 months, just because so much has already changed in the last six months with how you know, like clubhouse like, let's talk about clubhouse for a second. I know that, you know, we've we've had several listening experiences of Buzzcast episodes where they talk about clubhouse, and Facebook rollouts and everything. So what are your thoughts about consuming audio that isn't just a podcast experience?

I can tell you, I just did a focus group with my audience. They're like, Nah, they want it asynchronous. They want to listen to it on their time. And some people were like, I can't even bother to learn a new platform at this point. And so in for us, it's a it's a new way to engage. But I think for me the challenge with the clubhouse and not so much Twitter spaces, it's just like, the timing is always weird. Like, who has time to do this 12 o'clock in the afternoon. It's just always weird or 11 o'clock at night. I'm like, if it's not work kids are trying to get so it's never been the quite the right timing. So my experience has just been it's been a lot. And I just like with all that I have going on, it's very hard to fit it into my daily routine. I completely agree with you carry on. It's pretty inconvenient. And yeah, it's, it's hard to because you know, I might go into a room because there's someone I'm a fan of, and then someone gets on stage and they are like, long winded as all get out. And nobody can get a word in edgewise. And then you're like 10 minutes into it. They haven't even asked the guy that question. So I just I've been a little bit turned off by it just from like, my personal experience, because is inconvenient, or somewhat annoying. I would just prefer to listen to that person's podcast or whatever they're involved in.

Yeah, you heard it here. First. You're like, this is this is the Buzzcast Buzzsprout creators like take on clubhouse? I mean, my own Yeah, a hot take. Like my own personal experience has been I if I go there with an intention, like it is a scheduled room. That's like I mean, it's on my my Google Calendar. And I know what's happening, like, those are the only ones that I really participate in, because it's something I care about. And usually like, let's just be honest, it's probably about podcasting, or something to do and the online marketing online business space, because that's what I'm interested in. And I'm not just like, with Facebook, or Instagram, I still find myself, you know, I'll casually scroll on there. I was like, Oh, I got five minutes to kill, I'm waiting on something, then I'll open up those apps and do that. But I don't typically do that with clubhouse because I know, it's kind of party like you can't just casually walk into a party where everybody's talking and hanging out and like you have to have the intention to get it on your calendar go and show up. At least that's how I am y'all ever since I had kids. I'm not spontaneous anymore. So I don't spontaneously go to do anything.

You have to give an explanation for this because you just creeped a bunch of people out. So tell tell everybody what your zoom experience has been like over the last year.

So with my zoom experience, my son especially when we with the virtual backgrounds, he likes to stand beside me and then put his hand into the camera so he could see his and interrupting the virtual background. And then I have to explain to people like you crystal carry and you know, there's a hand coming at you. And I'm like, yeah, it's just my son. But but it's very hard to be spontaneous when you have kids and their schooling from home and random calls for school or a kidney to it's just very hard. And so that is the challenge with clubhouse I saw the appeal that people were home and needed to engage. But for us that has a lot of things going on out in the house already. Yeah, clubhouse was just another another distraction. It was one more child to attend to with the other. For sure that's so true.
