Kevin:

Here we go Quick. Cast One topic Deep dive. Everybody knows the rules Around 10 minutes, let's do it.

Alban:

Wait, one topic.

Kevin:

Yeah, Everyone knows the rules Jordan.

Jordan:

I feel like everyone knows the rules lands not as well when both of the people on this podcast disagree with what the rule was.

Alban:

If you're like, everyone knows the rules, we don't know the rule next week we're going to be in nashville for a buzzsprout team meetup and we decided that we were going to have a podcaster meetup while we're there, which I'm very excited about. We love meeting up with the podcasters. So what day are we doing this?

Jordan:

uh, thursday, october 24th, from 630 to 830. We will be at the Virgin Hotels. It's one music square west.

Alban:

Oh, that's easy Remember.

Kevin:

You said Virgin Hotels, but we were just. I think there's only one Virgin Hotel in Nashville and that's the one we'll be at. If there are multiple, we won't be at both.

Jordan:

I noticed this somewhere else, that they call it the Virgin Hotels Nashville.

Kevin:

Huh, that's a weird way to name their thing, maybe that's a British thing.

Jordan:

Well, maybe it's like Virgin Hotels and this is the one in Nashville, I don't know. I agree it threw me off too. I went and checked it.

Kevin:

Yeah, the Virgin brand is run by Richard Branson, who is a certified knight of the British Empire.

Alban:

What? Why did I think he was like a New Yorker? What is wrong with me?

Jordan:

I haven't heard him talk. He's very British.

Alban:

Oh wow, I don't know. I thought he was like New York or Las Vegas. Maybe he just has like that energy to him, but I haven't heard him speak.

Jordan:

So all of his ventures that he's made are all called Virgin because they're always like the first time he ever got into that business and I don't know if it was the first one. But the story of Virgin Airlines is that he was on a flight and it got canceled and then they weren't going to rebook everyone and he was like, oh, that's so frustrating. And so he booked a private jet and it wasn't all that expensive. And then he walked back and he put up a sign that said Virgin Airlines, where they were going New York to San Francisco in 45 minutes, 50 bucks. And he's put that sign up and everyone came up and going, hey, can I get on this flight? What's this flight? And he was like, yeah, it's Virgin Airlines. And that was the first flight.

Alban:

Can you imagine being at like an airstrip and you just see a guy like you know planting a little sign? Sign like $50 for a ticket. It's like, sign me up, man, I'm going to get in that plane.

Jordan:

You're afraid you're going to end up on some weird island, or something.

Kevin:

It's a little bit like the Home Alone story, when they're stranded in the airport and then they rent the U-Haul or whatever.

Jordan:

Oh, and she ends up with John Candy.

Kevin:

She hops in with Candy. Yeah, they're going to like Sheboygan or something, wow.

Jordan:

Chicago's just right on the way. The polka people, yeah, the polka band Polka, polka, polka. All right, so back to the topic. Yeah, we're going to Nashville, we're going to have a meetup. It's going to be good. We're going to have a taco truck or taco bar, taco bar drinks there'll be some swag.

Alban:

Yeah, I wasn't sure if we were bringing swag, but megan confirmed we are bringing swag, and some pins too, yeah, which is super cool.

Jordan:

So we'll bring a big bucket of swag. We'll bring us, we'll bring a bunch of stuff. Yeah, it's, it's always good fun. I think this one will probably be about 50 50 people who work for buzzsprout and people who use buzzsprout for podcasts, and then the three of us will be in both groups. But Nashville is not the biggest podcasting place. I think it's a little bit more focused on music. But we'll get a good group there and we've reached out to some of the local meetup groups and kind of cross-promoted. So we have like 50 people who have signed up so far saying they're going to come. But from everything else we've seen, mostly when people say they're coming they're like a third of a chance that they'll actually show.

Alban:

I saw on Reddit someone posted in like the podcasting Reddit. They were interested in the Buzzsprout meetup but they live three hours away and so they're asking Reddit if it was worth driving to Nashville.

Kevin:

Yeah, six hour round trip. I think so.

Jordan:

I know if it was like 20 minutes.

Kevin:

they'd be like no, not worth it. I think it depends on your how much you like road trips, like I'm a road trip guy, so six hour road trip for me that easy. There's a low bar of what's worth it for that. That's no big deal. Yeah, once you start getting into it like eight hours, then you know there's gotta be 16.

Jordan:

What meetup would you go to Kevin? That was a three hour drive.

Kevin:

Um almost any in the podcasting space not podcasting.

Jordan:

This is, this has to be like a personal hobby.

Kevin:

I don't know. Throw out some ideas and I'll say yes or no.

Alban:

I once went to a geocaching group meetup that is on brand for sure, I mean.

Kevin:

I would easily drive three hours to go see a concert that I was interested in.

Jordan:

You went and saw Taylor Swift, right, you went. That was four hours.

Kevin:

That was four hour drive down to Tampa. Um, that was mostly for my kids. But so, like I just run through the filter of would you drive four hours to bring your kids to a concert, they're like, yeah, no problem, but again, I like road trips. Like my wife is the opposite. She does not. She does not want to drive three or four hours for hardly anything. She would always rather take an hour flight.

Alban:

That's my husband too.

Jordan:

Never want to take an hour flight. Yeah, marie's actually the same. We uh my brother's in Atlanta, so that's like a five and a half hour drive or 45 minute flight. And Marie is like, oh, let's look at flights and I'm like that's going to be like a thousand dollars to fly the three of us up there. She's like, oh, I mean, it's so much nicer. And I'm like I don't think that's it's about go either way for me and the price pushes it to don't fly. But it's funny that she just despises being in the car for more than 20 minutes.

Kevin:

Here's the good thing about Nashville, though, is it's it's a pretty big airport and it's a huge layover spot, so there's tons of direct flights in and out of Nashville, and so I think, no matter what camp you land in, whether you like road trips or you prefer to fly, you should come to our meetup.

Alban:

Yeah, go sightseeing.

Kevin:

Because you can just fly in, catch the meetup, fly back out direct flights, easy peasy.

Jordan:

Oh man, I feel like we've way oversold this. We're going to hang out for a couple hours, have some tacos and some drinks and be friends and have a good time.

Kevin:

Let's bring something. Let's bring something fun for the person who traveled the furthest to come to this meetup.

Alban:

Yes.

Kevin:

Yes, and we don't have to promote this. This should only be for buzzcast listeners, basically, but let's bring something like something good.

Jordan:

That's subjective. Kevin's going to type it and it's going to be nothing and I'm going to go into it with, like I'm bringing the road caster pro Kevin's like whoa, whoa, whoa whoa.

Kevin:

I was thinking about like to get an extra t-shirt, yeah, yeah, that's for sure. Like I printed uh, everyone's getting a hoodie. I asked everyone's hoodie sizes for the team, like, maybe you'll get a team hoodie if you come oh, maybe you'll get a hoodie limited edition yeah it's about? It's about just winning something. It's not, doesn't matter what it is yeah, kevin and I once.

Jordan:

Uh, we're in a competition. We went to whataburger jordan, have I?

Kevin:

told you this story before you told this story on buzzcouse before I.

Alban:

Yeah, I feel like I remember this, but I don't remember exactly what it was maybe it's just that you've said that thing before.

Jordan:

It's all about winning and I'm like, no, sometimes winning is actually bad. And kevin and I were gonna eat a Whataburger meal as fast as you can contest, like a triple Whataburger. I have not been back to a Whataburger in the eight years since we did that. I think that was enough Whataburger for me.

Alban:

Yeah, so this will be less painful than that. I don't know. I know that if the Buzzsprout team came to Idaho and you guys were in like Northern Idaho and it was like a six hour drive for me, I'd probably go.

Jordan:

Yeah, but also like the grocery store is 45 minutes.

Alban:

No, it's not true. It's like five minutes, come on, but I mean, nothing ever comes to Idaho. So maybe you know what, maybe the people in Nashville are just a little spoiled and so for them, three hours is like oh, I don't want to do that.

Jordan:

I mean, nashville is completely spoiled when it comes to music. Oh yeah, there's nowhere else in the world that you can be. You literally walk into like some no name coffee shop and it's back to back to back like really good artists making zero money for singing to you.

Alban:

Yeah.

Jordan:

And you'll be in the airport and there's someone who's like shockingly good and they're all just like trying to make it and they're so accomplished and there's so many good concerts and stuff. So it's a great. It is a great music city.

Alban:

Yeah, well, I'll have a link in the show notes if you want to RSVP for the meetup, and we made 10 minutes. Catch on the next episode. Keep podcasting.

Kevin:

We could have done two topics.

Jordan:

Don't even do that.
